Bringing In Calm Amongst The Chaos
Updated: Oct 7, 2022
You may be facing challenges and changes that are leaving you feeling overwhelmed. I know I have certainly had waves of it with all that is going on. I experience feeling dizzy and a slight tightness in the chest when I do. Given what’s going on for the majority of us at the moment, here’s what you can practice this week (and beyond) to help you manage your emotions and stay feeling level headed through it all.
Firstly, recognise that overwhelm is your body’s way of signalling to you that you need to take a step back. The fogginess, not able to concentrate, hot sweats and anxiety is your body’s way of trying to get your attention! It’s trying to bring you back into balance and equilibrium, but we must work with it to be able to do that. In a recent live video I did, I asked the viewers what helped them when they experienced overwhelm. The responses were simple yet incredibly empowering. Here are some things that have been tried and tested by your fellow Warriors: “I use my calm app” “I just stop. Then ask myself is what I’m worrying about actually real? Or am I making things worse in my own head” “I write down anything that’s swirling round in my head” “I limit my time on social media” “Take a few deep breaths” “Affirmations throughout the day and then a lavender bath and meditation during the evening” “Removed people and things that trigger me on social media” “I listen to music” “I step back and take some deep breaths” “I keep my crystals close to me through the day, and under my pillow at night.” Notice how the things listed above are quick distractions for the mind and body, that then gives you a chance to refocus your mind away from what’s causing the overwhelm and put’s you back in the drivers seat. Something that works well for me is actually surrendering to what’s going on around me (If I can’t control it) and simply lower my expectations.
Some day’s I have plans to blitz the house, wash my hair, reply to all my emails, check in with clients, create content like this, all whilst keeping two little humans alive and entertained. So I drop what isn’t a priority off my list (usually the blitzing the house goes!) and I focus on doing only what is truly important and necessary.
There’s always tomorrow! And that we have to be grateful for! I hope you keep this in mind if you feel yourself slipping into overwhelm, remember to take a step back and refocus by doing something for you. Even if that is as simple as a few deep breaths.
