How are you?

How are you? We are often asked this question by the people around us, but it’s rare we give ourselves chance to pause and check in on how we are really feeling. You may think you don’t want to burden others, look weak, come across in a certain way or just find it easier to say “I’m okay thanks, how are you?”. But this is no doubt impacting your mental health and well-being. You may not feel comfortable sharing how you truly feel to others, but it’s vital you become accustomed to checking in with yourself and being honest with how you are feeling. I see people waiting until breaking point or burn out before they check in with how they are feeling and recognise it is having a strain on their health. The more self-aware you become, the more aware you’ll be of what’s going on inside and you can then start asking yourself the all-important question “Is there anything I can do about it? Is it something you can let go of? Do you need professional support? Is there a conversation you could have? A really powerful question to practice pausing and asking yourself throughout the day is “What do I need?” or “What can I do right now to make myself feel a little better and raise my vibration?” The idea isn’t about you trying to think of a big solution right there and then, it’s about being in the present moment and acknowledging how you are feeling, and doing something to help make yourself feel a little lighter. You can practice setting microgoals, small tasks or goals for yourself. You will get better at detecting what you need, and when you need it. This is a very transformative life skill to have.
